Antique American Coin Silver Sugar Tongs

$350.00
  • New York, circa 1830 by Benedict & Scudder
  • Dimensions: 6 3/8 inches length

Of all the serving implements at a dinner table, sugar tongs are perhaps the most fun to use. Unlike knives, forks, and spoons, sugar tongs are slightly more complicated. They must be properly used to successfully carry sugar cubes to one’s cup of coffee or tea.

The firm Benedict & Scudder was an early 19th century American silversmith, jeweler and watchmaking partnership located at 28 Bowery in New York City. the company was founded by Andrew Comstock Benedict and Egbert Scudder. They were known for making pieces such as American coin silver serving spoons and flatware pieces such as sugar tongs.

A very attractive pair of Antique American Coin Silver Sugar Tongs. They have nice scallop shell form on both ends which are intended for serving sugar lumps but can be used for ice as well. They are in excellent condition and the back of the tongs has a monogram of MFG in script.
