Strawberry Dishes came into use in the late 1600s, being used for many purposes – especially for serving strawberries. This was as strawberries were considered a luxury fruit and needed an elegant dish to reside in.
These dishes range in size from 7 to 9 inches, with some of the smaller ones being 4 and 5 inches which were used for individual use. By the 18th century, these specialized dishes, designed with scalloped or fluted edges, were quite popular. They have continued to be so throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras as well as today.
