Victorian women loved forcing hyacinth bulbs in special vases for winter and early spring bloom. The practice dates back to the mid-1700s when Madame Pompadour, the influential mistress of Louis XV, had hundreds of hyacinth flowers scattered around in vases at Versailles.
Our 3 Antique English Green Glass Hyacinth Vases are designed in a tall churn shape. This design became very popular and was produced for many years in different colors. As they are all hand blown, they have slight variations as well as pontils on the exterior of the bases. It is always exciting to see the slight variations in color and shape and to know that each one was used in such a nice way.
