Antique Victorian Plate Basket

Sold
  • Sheffield, circa 1880 by Mappin and Webb
  • Dimensions: 10 inches tall with handle up, 11 1/4 inches wide, 9 1/8 inches deep

Antique Victorian Plate Baskets are generally described as cake baskets but were more commonly used for bread and fruit.

A handsome Antique Victorian Plate Basket having an oval body with a scalloped border. A very elegant swing handle complements this piece quite nicely. This basket resides on an oval base which has a thread edge border. During the Victorian era, most pieces tended to be quite elaborate and ornate in design. It is always nice to be able to find an elegant and simple cake basket like this and to be able to use it in today’s life style.
