The Barker Brothers are one of the oldest firms of English silversmiths and electroplaters. Established in 1801 in Birmingham, England, the company was also known as the Barker Ellis Silver Company. It soon found quick success due to producing utilitarian silver and silver plate flatware as well as tableware. Their silverware encompassed many popular styles of the era, such as Queen Anne, Art Deco And Art Nouveau. Their success is certainly sue to their ability to adapt and to produce a variety of styles, moving with the popular fashion at the time. This was no doubt influenced by the silversmiths who quickly joined the company as its reputation grew. The company continued to produce high quality silverware and electroplated articles until the mid 1980’s.
An impressive and elaborate Antique Victorian Plate Salver made by the well known Barker Ellis Silver Company. This 10 inch round Salver has a wonderful scroll, leaf and shaped gadroon border which is exemplified with its engraved floral, scroll and shell design on the surface. It resides on three elaborate scroll feet and the salver is clearly hallmarked on the back with the maker’s mark, Barker Ellis.
