Antique English Shell Shaped Dish

Sold
  • England. circa 1820
  • Dimensions: 7 7/8 inches width

Shell Dishes, named as such for taking the shape of a shell, were used in Dessert Sets. These dishes were used to hold dessert and the handle made it convenient to pass around a table.

A 19th century Antique English Shell Shaped Dish that is beautifully hand painted. Orange flowers and green leaves are the colors that resonate throughout this piece. Interspersed in this design are gilt medallions as well as other uses of gilt. A scalloped rim and a shaped handle help finish the look of this piece. Please note that this dish is in pristine condition as there are no chips or repairs but some of the gilding is slightly worn on the edges.
