English Sterling Silver Wine Coaster

Wine was both used and very popular for the middle and ruling classes during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Lifestyle and the consumption of goods became a way to display taste as well as one’s wealth. This concept, as well as the abolition of import and export duties during the 1820s (although not completely enforced until the 1840s) created a massive influx of wine into Britain. It became very popular to serve wine during and after a formal dinner and eventually, prior to a dinner. Thus, the need for the bottle slider – later to become known as the wine coaster – was created.

A handsome and vintage English Sterling Silver Wine Coaster. Designed in a classic early Georgian style, this English sterling silver wine coaster has a thread edge decoration which resonates at the base. This design creates a classic but modern look that will suit any life style. It has a wooden base (interior) and the central silver button is perfect for engraving a crest or initials. In pristine condition, this vintage English Sterling Silver Wine Coaster is quite attractive and would enhance any dinner table.
