Hester Bateman (1709 – 1794) was the most famous 18th century English female silversmith. Hester was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Nedem. She married in 1732 (at the Church of St. Botolph’s, Aldergate, in the city of London) the goldsmith John Bateman, whereby together they worked a small silversmith business.
This exquisite, Antique George III English Silver Teapot, is of exceptional quality as it features a bright cut engraved decoration that resonates throughout the piece. It is of oval form having applied thread edge borders. This piece is quite special as there is a monogram within the cartouche. There is a great deal of history with this piece as the teapot was a wedding gift from SBH to BS in the 18th century.
It is fully hallmarked, which is quite important when considering a piece of antique silver.
