Silver table bells, also known as desk or call bells, have traditionally been used to summon attention, particularly in formal settings like dining rooms or hotel desks. Silver table bells were first made in Britain in the 18th century, with early examples from this period being very rare and highly after. Novelty shaped bells started being produced in the Victorian era with unique designs becoming quite popular. The standard form of the silver bell has changed little since its inception as most took the form of an inverted cup with a flaring mouth, a vertical handle to hold, and an internal clapper.
An Antique American Sterling Silver Table Bell embossed in a wonderful Art Nouveau flower motif. There are floral patterns and flowing lines that resonate throughout the handle. There is no maker’s mark on this piece but it is marked Sterling on the side of the handle. Please note that there are very small imperfections on the side of the handle.
