English Sterling Silver Mustard Pot

$385.00
  • Birmingham 1945
  • Dimensions: 2 inches height, 3 1/2 inches wide

A mustard pot is traditionally a small container used to hold and serve mustard. This provides a decorative element to a dining table. Mustard pots evolved from the use of powdered mustard, which was then mixed with water or vinegar to create a liquid paste, similar to the consistency of mustard today.

A charming and vintage English Sterling Silver octagonal shaped Mustard Pot. Having an ornate shell thumbpiece, the Mustard Pot has a hinged lid and elegant bands of thread edge decoration. Please note that the maker’s mark is worn on the body and is not discernible to the naked eye. The other marks are quite clear on the piece.

Many silver items (including our Mustard Pot) are lined with blue liners. It was believed the blue glass enhanced the flavor, stopped the silver from tarnishing and in addition to adding a nice aesthetic look and contrasting the silver.
