Flatware can be so creative and fun – not to mention styles of entertaining from our predecessors. Our Pair of American Silver Tiffany and Company Spoons are a perfect example of that as they were made when Edward C. Moore was the driving force at Tiffany and Co. In fact, this design is called the ‘ram’s head’ and is the earliest known flatware designed under the regime of Edward C. Moore.

Edward Moore was the creative force behind the magnificent and innovative silver produced at Tiffany and Co. during the second half of the nineteenth century. He is a tale of phenomenal artistry, ambition, creativity, and vision. In his drive to study and create beauty, Moore sought inspiration in very diverse cultures and geographies. During his reign at Tiffany and Co., he not only revolutionized Tiffany’s silver but also inspired generations of artists and artisans. The highly original and technically innovative silver created under Moore’s direction garnered popular and critical acclaim. Tiffany’s award winning displays at the nineteenth century world’s fairs helped establish the firm as the leading silversmith of its day.

Our Pair of American Silver Spoons are a wonderful example of Tiffany and Company’s early work. The detail work on these pieces are exceptional with the ram’s head finials and the shell form gilt bowls. Gilt (or gold plated) refers to the surface which is covered with a thin layer of gold. This is done sometimes as a decorative element but more often to prevent tarnishing or staining in difficult to clean areas such as the interiors of smaller objects.

This design was not made that often by Tiffany and Co. and thus, these Silver Spoons are considered quite special and rare to find. We are thrilled to have them in our inventory.
