Pair of English Staffordshire Confetti Poodles

$375.00 for pair
  • England, circa 1920
  • Dimensions: 2 7/8 inches height, 1 7/8 inches width

Staffordshire has been the center of ceramic production in Great Britain since the early 17th century. Its porcelain includes animals specifically King Charles Spaniels, figurines and cottages and castles. At the apex of popularity there were approximately 200 factories producing these wares. Therefore, the country has made a historical mark for itself within the pottery industry.

A delightful pair of English Staffordshire Small Confetti Poodles. This pebble or confetti style (which is exemplified in this pair) predates the more widely familiar Cavalier Staffordshire Dogs. Potters would achieve this curly coat from an application of crushed up slip (the mixture of clay and water) that was pushed through a sieve onto the glazed surface of the piece.

Our pair of English Staffordshire Small Confetti Poodles are charming with their lovely detail work. They have curly poodle hair, gold collars, black eyes and nose and reside in a seated position. There is a “Staffordshire Ware Made in England” mark that is located on the base of each one. This mark indicates that they were created at least after 1890.

What a wonderful pair of dogs these make!
