A Ridgway Jug/Pitcher – often made from ceramic, porcelain and stoneware – can elevate any home. Many designers have produced jugs over the years, but those crafted by Minton and William Ridgway are often thought to be among the most beautiful.
The Ridgway family was one of the most important dynasties manufacturing Staffordshire pottery from the 1790’s to the late 20th century. Most of their work was in earthenware, often of very high quality. Stoneware and bone china were also made. The history of the various Ridgway firm is somewhat complex. The two brothers John and William Ridgway succeeded their father Job Ridgway and in 1830 went their separate ways. John does not appear to have produced any relief moulded jugs but William was prolific in this area exemplified by these 3 Jugs. This company, excelling in this type of work, lasted until the 1960s.
