Old Sheffield Plate Chamberstick

A handsome Old Sheffield circular Chamberstick that has a very elegant design with its thread edge border and a lovely crest. Chambersticks were introduced in the 17th Century and originally the purpose was used for lighting a bedroom. Therefore, large households had many sets of them which were available to each member of the family. Due to the movement created while walking with them in the room, wax would drop. Thus, they needed a large drip pan to catch the wax. Due to this, the general shape of chambersticks were either circular or oblong. This created the chamberstick as we know it today. This is a lovely example of a Regency Chamberstick.
