Antique English Staffordshire Lion

$685 $616.50
  • England, circa 1880
  • Dimensions: Height - 11 3/4 inches

Staffordshire Lions, along with other Staffordshire figures, began to be produced in the mid 1700s. The most prolific period that they were made, was between 1780 and 1840. In fact, many different types of animals were produced at this time. However, subject matter evolved in response to people’s taste and two subjects remained popular throughout the entire period: dogs and lions!

A Staffordshire Lion – often made from ceramic, pottery and earthenware – can delight anyone. Our 19th century Antique English Staffordshire Lion has its left front paw raised while the other paws are residing on the base. The colors, decoration and modelling are exceptionally well executed on this piece. Lion’s are England’s natural symbol and they always were and always will be. People as well as collectors, will always pursue them and love to collect different styles.

Our Staffordshire Lion will definitely add charm and greatness to any setting it is in!
