20th Century Silver Vases

The word vase is derived from the Latin word ‘vase’ which means vessel. Over the years, vases have evolved into how we use them today and are made in non – rusting materials such as sterling silver, ceramics or glass. These materials are not only practical for the purposes of holding and displaying flowers, but also are resilient to the inevitable wear and tear that water can do. They are predominately used to hold cut flowers, but can also be used to stand alone as a decorative object. Sterling silver vases became quite popular in the 1800s especially during the Victorian era (1837 – 1900) as many people displayed their wealth and status through ornamental objects. Silver vases have proved to be classic and timeless pieces and are quite popular especially for Valentines Day and Mothers Day!
