Silver Sugar Nips are a type of decorative, scissor-like utensil that is used to pick up either sugar cubes or candy. They became a symbol of refinement as tea and coffee culture became popular. They have a long, detailed and rich history that dates back to the 17th century when sugar was a precious commodity. Wealthy households prized sugar nips, displaying them as part of elaborate tea services. This was especially so during the Victorian times, when afternoon tea was so popular, these would often be in use.
