Antique English Glass Amethyst Hyacinth Vase

$295.00
  • England, circa 1885
  • Dimensions: 7 3/4 inches height

A Hyacinth Vase, made of glass, is primarily used for forcing hyacinth bulbs to bloom indoors. This is typical during the winter and early spring months. These vases were designed with a narrow neck to hold the bulb above the water level. This allows the roots to grow down into the reservoir below. Many different styles of vases have developed over the years. Squatty bulbous vases as well as tall ones are the usual styles and over the years, there would be variations of these 2 styles. Coming to fruition during the Victorian era, in the homes, one would often see most vases displayed on windowsills followed by mantles.

A classic Antique English Glass Hyacinth Vase in a rich amethyst color. The bowl flares out into a conical shape and it is in lovely condition.
