A compote can be described as a dish or bowl that resides on a pedestal or a footed stand. Quite often they are used as a centerpiece. Other uses pertain to meals such as to hold desserts like cookies or other small delicacies if it is a flat dish. If the compote is a bowl it will usually hold fruit, pudding or even a dessert such as ice cream.

The center of this piece has a large purple flower with a yellow center and this is set on a white background. There are also wavy lines interspersed with white leaves and some piercing near the two handles as well as a reticulated heart detail and panels. A gilt scalloped edge resonates around the border.
