An exquisite Antique English Porcelain Dessert Plate. The workmanship is exceptional and although there is no mark on the back, it was probably made from one of the better manufacturers in England.
English Plates like this were inspired by Japanese Imari designs, which were very popular in Europe during the Regency period. English porcelain is always whiter than Japanese porcelain and thus, the result is that the colors always appear brighter and livelier in English porcelain.
The color combinations that resonate throughout this plate are magnificent. Iron red, orange and pink flowers as well as green leaves show off beautifully against the white background. To enhance these colors, navy blue and gilt are used. The plate which is hand-hammered in the 19th century, is a lovely example of work done at that time.
