Old Sheffield Plate Asparagus Tongs

$450.00
  • Birmingham, circa 1810 by John Gilbert
  • Dimensions: 10 inches length

There has never been a legal requirement to mark Old Sheffield Plate pieces, so many of them are unmarked. Most of the time, these pieces are dated based on their style and the way they were made. This can lead to a circa date within 5 to 10 years on either side. Occasionally, you will find a maker’s mark on a piece like we did on this pair of Old Sheffield Plate Asparagus Tongs.

A very elegant pair of early 19th century Old Sheffield Plate Asparagus Tongs. They are quite simple in design having ribbed blades. This design is quite rare to find and thus, we are thrilled to have acquired them.

Asparagus Tongs are one of those items that have never gone out of fashion. They are quite useful and practical even in today’s society.
