Set of Four Antique English Cobalt Blue Glass Salt Cellars

$575.00 set of 4
  • England, circa 1860
  • Dimensions: 2 1/2 inches height, Base - 2 1/2 inches

There was a time when salt cellars played an important role on the dining table of the host or hostess. As a result of salt being such an expensive commodity several hundred years ago, it was considered a luxury. It was the well to do class that made salt cellars quite fashionable as well as a status symbol for the home. A single salt cellar usually was placed at the head of the table and was then passed around during the meal. The closer one sat to the salt cellar, the more important that individual was deemed by the head of the household.

Salt Cellars for the table come in silver, porcelain, cut glass or crystal. Glass salt cellars, known as salt dips to some collectors, can be found in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.

Our set of four Antique English Cobalt Blue Glass Salt Cellars are quite vibrant with their deep color. Having a starburst and geometric design on the lozenge (diamond) shaped bases, is a major feature. They are in pristine condition and are quite special and would be a welcome addition to any dining table.
