Antique Victorian Plate Asparagus Tongs

$350.00
  • Sheffield, circa 1885 by Walker and Hall
  • Dimensions: 8 inches in length

Asparagus did not become popular as a vegetable in England until the early 18th century. This popularity was due to asparagus being considered an exotic accompaniment for other dishes. Thus, Asparagus Tongs became the acceptable item at the dinner table during the Victorian era. This was due to the strict social conventions in dining decorum and formal parties at this time.

An elegant pair of Antique Victorian Plate Asparagus Tongs. They are designed in a wonderful classical style with the handles having beautifully hand pierced blades. These Asparagus Tongs are easy to use and very helpful in getting the asparagus off of the serving dish and onto your dinner plate.

Antique Victorian Plate Asparagus Tongs is another fascinating item which help remind us of an earlier era, while also being quite useful and practical in the 21st century.
